Unfortunately, some scientists are faced with online threats, hate speech or intimidation because of the contributions they make to the public debate. This is a risk for academic freedom and the freedom of scientists, and can lead to self-censorship.
SafeScience helps scientists to find the right support in the event of threats, intimidation or hate speech. All the affiliated institutions are committed to supporting anybody who reports a problem within one working day, and in many cases sooner. In addition,
SafeScience provides relevant information about what employees, managers and institutions can do to prevent or respond to threats and intimidation. As a partnership, ScienceSafe also exchanges expertise on how to protect scientists – by monitoring and sharing good examples, for example.
